I’m sure that you will all be aware by now that the Club has had to close its doors until further notice, in accordance with the government directive. We have now also ceased the takeaway service that was being offered.
Some members have contacted us to ask if the Club will be re-opening. This is most certainly the intention. We have closely examined our financial position and ongoing commitments, and feel that – without any further injection of funds – the Club will remain viable until at least the end of September. We are exploring all possible options available and, if it proves that we are eligible for a local authority grant, this will be a significant help.
We are also doing our utmost to protect and safeguard the position of our staff, and are seeking clarification as to what financial assistance can be provided through the government’s coronavirus job retention scheme.
As the coronavirus takes hold, things have been changing on an almost daily basis. Whilst we had originally intended raising membership fees for 2020/21, it no longer seems equitable to do this when the Club facilities are unlikely to be available for the foreseeable future. We are pleased that a number of members have already renewed their membership and would be grateful if others would do so, to increase our chances of remaining open in the longer term. Membership renewal forms may be downloaded from our website.
The AGM scheduled for 26 April has now been postponed. Whilst our own rules require that this be held by 28 July (ie within 15 months of the previous AGM), matters are clearly no longer in our own hands. In the interim, if anybody would like to consider joining or helping the Committee – in any capacity – please contact us by e-mail.
We are further taking steps to secure the building during this period of enforced closure, including installation of further remote monitoring facilities.
The committee is currently undertaking weekly telephone conferencing meetings.
