Further to our last bulletin, this brief note is to reassure members that we still intend to re-open just as soon as government directives allow.
The cellar is now fully closed down and, where possible, bottles with short remaining shelf lives have been sold off. Remaining stocks of tapped beers have been drained down. Where barrels are untapped, we have reached an agreement with some suppliers that, if the expiry date is reached before lockdown arrangements are relaxed, they will replace at no charge. Security arrangements surrounding the Club have also been stepped up; and our regular employees have all agreed to be enrolled in the government’s furlough (job retention) scheme. We have applied for a local authority grant in accordance with the government initiative, although do not expect to be advised whether this application has been successful for a week or so. Clearly, we still have financial commitments and fixed costs, so all income received is greatly welcome. According, we are most grateful to all those who have already renewed their membership for 2020/21.
For those who have not renewed their membership, payment may be made direct to the NBC bank account:
Sort Code: 60-10-15;
Account name: The New Beach Club
Current rates are £18 single and £32 (joint). If you choose to pay this way, please include your surname and membership number as the reference or, by e-mail, let us know that you have paid direct.
As previously explained, the AGM due for later this month has had to be postponed. When we have reopened, we aim to arrange such a meeting as soon as possible, although in accordance with the requirement in our rules we will afford members 21 days’ notice. The committee continues to meet (by telephone conference) every week / fortnight and is trying to address some of the issues which have had to take a back seat up until now. One of these is the need to update and improve our website. So please be aware that changes will be ongoing over the next few weeks.
Finally, there is one regular Club event which continues despite the closure. This is the Monday night quiz, which now takes place “virtually” via Zoom. It’s in the same format, with Matt Barden reading out the questions, which are also displayed on screen. This has proved to be a great success, so we are most grateful to Matt for getting this on line. For those of you who have not yet sampled it, it takes place at 8pm.
Hopefully we will all be able to enjoy a drink in the sunshine on the patio before too long. In the meantime, please stay safe.
