It seems that the controversy over this will just not die down! Many members have been
concerned over the recent article that appeared in the Rye & Battle Observer – with good
cause. But nobody from the Committee has had contact with the newspaper, and the quotes
attributed to “a spokesman for the New Beach Club” are not from us. Our position remains
unaltered: it is the Club that owns the planning permission (if granted); and any development
can only happen with the approval of a majority of members.
Despite the Club being closed, to date 227 (90 joint and 47 single) members have renewed
for 2020/21. We are most appreciative of this, as it greatly helps our cashflow at this difficult
time. For those who have not yet renewed, this can be done by direct payment into the Club
bank account (£18 single membership; £32 joint):
Sort Code: 60-10-15;
Account no: 87689472;
Account name: The New Beach Club
In preparation for further easing of lockdown arrangements, we are drawing up risk
assessments and a Covid-19 risk assessment – as required by legislation. When these have
been finalised, we will share the implications with you.
Also in readiness for re-opening, we are intending to repaint the front of the building, and
replace some of the rotted fascias. This work is scheduled to start w/c 1 June and will be
undertaken by volunteers.
Finally, a reminder that the Monday night quiz is still taking place via Zoom and is going
from strength to strength. There is no charge to join in – details are on the website.
